Welcome to the Next Era of Shorter B. Pullen Company

If you’ve landed here, welcome — you’ve found the new online home of Shorter B. Pullen Company. The site is new. The name is not.

For the better part of sixty years, this firm has looked after the finances of families and businesses across Rome and Northwest Georgia. My grandfather, Shorter Berry Pullen, Jr., founded it in the 1960s to give his business clients something tax season alone couldn’t: year-round counsel from someone who knew their numbers and their name. My father carried that work forward for decades, eventually rebuilding the firm as a fully independent practice answerable to no one but its clients. When he passed away in 2023, the responsibility — and the name over the door — became mine.

I didn’t step into it lightly. Before coming home to Rome, I spent time at Deloitte learning what I’d need to carry the firm into its next chapter: deeper tax expertise, modern systems, and the kind of workflows that let a small firm deliver big-firm precision without losing the personal touch that made us worth calling in the first place. In 2025, I brought those tools back to Shorter B. Pullen Company — and folded in the clients I’d been serving through my own practice along the way.

So what does “next era” actually mean? A few things are new. We’ve modernized how we work — cloud accounting, cleaner reporting, faster turnaround, and planning that happens year-round instead of once in April. This website is part of that too: a clearer front door for the people who find us by referral or by searching our name.

But the things that matter most haven’t changed, and won’t. You’ll still work with people who know you, not a rotating cast of strangers. You’ll still get straight answers in plain language. And you’ll still find, over the door and at the bottom of every return, a name that has stood for trust in this community across three generations — because that’s a standard my family has been unwilling to lower.

This page — Insights — is where we’ll share what’s worth knowing: the deadlines that sneak up, the planning moves worth making before year-end, the questions clients ask us most. No jargon, no filler. Just the useful parts.

If you’re an existing client, thank you — for your trust, and for staying with us through the years. If you’re new here, I’d welcome the chance to earn that same trust. Either way, take a look around, and reach out anytime. We’re glad you found us.
